Allanson Hall Farm, Adlington, Chorley

N53.615346, W2.610515

Plus point(s), it is alongside the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, with good cycling. It depends on your tastes and requirements of course, but, for us, it was just a little too "rustic".

Visited: 2012

N51.758456 W1.855755

There is an adjacent CL (Orchard Meadow) next door, same owner. Orchard House has 5 hard standing pitches, each with EHU, and Fresh Water tap. Owner very friendly and helpful. No toilets or showers, so, it is use your own in the van. Site is extremely tidy, clean, and well organised. The approach road is narrow, but quiet road. There is a gate to open, enough space for a 7 metre Motorhome to get off the road, but, not a car and caravan outfit, or, larger Motorhome.

Birds Farm (12 Haslingfield Road, Barton, Cambridge, CB23 7AG)

N52.17582, E0.05535

£10 a night, with EHU and toilets, it is just a short distance off the A14. Of course, proximity to the A14 has a downside, you can hear the traffic noise from the site. It is not intrusive enough to keep us awake. We used this as a stop-over en-route to Dover. The Approach a little untidy, but, the place is OK, for  a night.

Barn Owl Meadow CL (Rickinghall, Suffolk, IP22 1LY)

N52.305835, E0.985973)

A CAMC CL. Very well organised, text message, before arrival, advising pitch number, barrier code and code to access facilities. EHU, Toilet, Showers, Information room with books. There is also meat and basic food items available to buy. Video of approach.

Bath.  Penn Hill CL

N51 23'35" W2 24'8"

This is a CAMC CL, it has EHU, waste disposal etc, but, no Toilets or Showers, so, it is "use your own facilities. The day we arrive, there has been substantial rain fail, and, the ground is very wet. There are hard standings, but, there is also a lot of mud. Perhaps, on a sunny day, things will look better. On a positive note, there is a P&R (Newbridge) nearby with regular busses into town, plus, a couple of other services nearby. Alternatively, it is walkable, just over 2 miles.

Canterbury, New Dover Road, Park and Ride.

N51 15'46" : E1 5' 57".

An excellent initiative by Canterbury Council. Ideal to visit the City (park and ride bus into city), or, as a stop-over before taking Ferry from Dover or Tunnel from Ashford. Dedicated Motorhome area with marked out bays. Services (water / waste), and, a toilet at the Bus Terminal.  It is simple to operate, on arrival, take a ticket, at the barrier. Shortly before you leave, pay using your ticket, at the pay machine. Machines take cash only (including Notes) and give change if necessary pay on exit, £7.50 per day (note that is per day, not per 24 hours).

Deeping St James, Keal Lodge CLBack Lane, Deeping St James, Lincolnshire, PE6 8RT

N52.670112 W0.279909
This site is actually two sites. A CAMC CL, and, a Commercial Site. Don't quite understand why they would do this, since, price and facilities are supposedly the same on both? No toilets/shower block, but, each pitch is serviced with EHU, drain for waste water, and, a tap for fresh water. The site is immaculate, with plenty of space. Owners give detailed instructions for approach.

N52.539974 E0.922318

A CAMC CL site. Clean and well kept. EHU, and a small unisex toilet, plus of course, the usual  waste disposal. In common with many CLs, great water is channeled into the hedgerow, so, no water emptying chore. However, fresh water is not very accessible for motorhome. Free WiFi (not very fast, OK for Email and web browsing, not streaming). At time of our visit, 3 mobile Broadband only just acceptable. Approach complicated by road closures, but, that shouldn't normally be an issue, and, it is signposted.

A CAMC CL. Set in a boatyard, alongside the River Chet, with boats
moored at the riverside. The CL area is firm, grassed. Designated pitches, with EHU point, and, grey water drain. Plentyfull fresh water points. Shower, and toilet facilities. Helpful and friendly Warden (Owner?). Free WiFi, of decent speed, enough to stream TV etc. Pub and village of Chedgrave within walking distance.

Garstang, Bridge House Marina and Caravan Site

N53.903404, W2.788455

The site is small, which we like, and is well kept and tidy. In addition to the Caravan area, there is a Marina bursting with pleasure craft. Short walk or cycle into Garstang. Some good cycling, although the towpath on the nearby canal is disappointingly in a state of dis-repair. Bus service available.

Kings Lynn

Old School House

N52.72121 E0.28103

Church Road, Terrington St. John, Wisbech, Norfolk,

PE14 7SA

A CAMC CL. In summary, excellent!. Owner Max(ine) is friendly, informative and welcoming. Site is neat, tidy, clean and spacious. Village is 1 mile walk, along fairly quiet road, with footpath, there is an off-licence/convenience store, Fish and Chip Shop, Pub (with meals) and bus stop. Lots of walking and cycling on quiet lanes. Located 5 minutes from A47, but, no noticeable road noise. On slight downside, signposting could be better, took three passes, before we spotted it! Trick is, as you approach, on Church Road, look out for small turning into Church Lane, entrance is in Church Lane.

Lincoln, Fiskerton, Diamond House CL

N53.23299 W0.41416

A CAMC CL. Easy to find, and easy access.  The CL is located adjacent to a small commercial site. Each pitch has EHU. There is water, also (unisex) showers and toilets. Shower and toilet building does not appear to be heated, worth remembering, if, as we were, you are visiting in January! Bus stops about 20 yards along road from site, half hourly service to Lincoln. Traffic free cycle route to Lincoln nearby. A pub (Carpenters) in the village (Fiskerton), about 3/4 mile walk.

Easy to find and easy to access. Very well organised and well laid out CL. No toilet or shower facilities. Water, EHU, and Waste Water on each pitch. Pitches all hard standing. Security gate entry with code.

Lymington, Edengate

N50.762934, W1.599201

A full facility CL. The facilities do not impress from the outside, but, inside they are well kept. Unfortunately, on a busy road, no noise, but, walking or cycling along road a trifle scary.

Visited: 2012

Maryport, Marina Maryport

N54.713592, W3.506921

The site is at a Marina. Well done and well kept. Very well kept full facilities, except, at the time we visited, no drive over drain for emptying. Staff incredibly helpful and friendly. Maryport, the town seems a pleasant enough place, although it is clear it is "faded grandeur", it's glory days have long past. The coast is probably best described as unspoilt, ie, it is undeveloped, other than a lengthy Promenade come sea wall, which stretches for a considerable distance. Some excellent cycling, mostly on dedicated cycle tracks.

Mysterton, Nottinghamshire. Fountains Hill Farm

N53 26'10" W0 51' 50"

A very small CAMC CL, only three vans, located at an Equestrian Centre. Adults only, no dogs. Excellent. Very quiet. It has EHU, Toilet (in stables area). Approximately 1 mile walk to village, along Canal (Chesterfield Canal) towpath. Village has pub, chip shop, pizza shop.

Newark, Little Acres CL, NG23 5AH

N53.022793 W0.744965

A CAMC CL, a short distance off the A1, near Newark, on the edge of the village of Claypole. There are two sections, a not very "scenic" area, as you enter, with EHU and Water, plus a more scenic area called "The Paddock" with serviced pitches, EHU, Water, waste water drainage. The price at the time we visited was £18/night, and £22/night depending on the area. We used it as an overnight stop, just off the A1 Southbound. No toilet or shower. Entry secured with code number. All dealings by phone / Email, but, that wasn't a problem, everything was obvious and clear.

Norfolk,
Russdenill Lodge

N52.903824 E1.181542

Ossier Lane, West Beckham, Norfolk, NR25 6PL.

A CAMC CL. Easy to find, last few miles on single track road, with passing places, nothing too difficult. Owners Denise and Russel, gave us a friendly welcome, showed us to our pitch, and showed us were everything was located (ie EHU, Water, Waste Disposal etc). Piches are neatly trimmed grass, ground is firm. There are no "facilities" ie toilet/shower. There is no drive over drinking for Motorhomes, but, it is quite possible to get close enough to the drinking water supply to fill tank with a 5Metre hose, and to get close enough to the waste disposal to empty with a 5metre waster hose. £12/night, including 16amp EHU, is very satisfactory.

Skelton near York Grantchester Caravan Site

N53 59'53" W1 8'14"

A Camping and Caravan Club Certified Site. It is just off the A19, in the village of Skelton, about three miles from the centre of York. The  site is small, but has all of the necessary amenities (ie EHU, Showers, Toilets etc). Ideal for visiting York, also plenty of (easy) local cycling.

Visited: 2019

Skipton, Niffany Farm Caravan and Camping (53.959569, -2.04724)

Located alongside the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, about 30 minutes walk into Skipton, along canal, or, alternatively along road. Tidy and clean site. All facilities, except dish washing area, but, has a Games room. Note, if visiting in Winter, toilets not heated! Every pitch has a view, over the Canal. Quiet.

Visited: 2019

Stockbridge, London Hill Farm,

N51 7' 13" ; W1 28' 35"

The CL is just off the A30, a rather busy road, but, it is far enough from the road so that traffic noise is not an issue. There is EHU and water. Supposedly, there is also Chemical Toilet disposal and waste emptying, but, we never found them. It is a trifle odd location, behind a group of Industrial Units (the largest of which FabTech, provides the signposting, so you know you have reached your destination. It is, perhaps, worth noting that walking, or cycling, along the road (A30) would not be fun! The village of Stockbridge, a very pleasant little place, is about a mile from the site.  We used this CL when attending a family wedding in Stockbridge.

Suffolk, Lark Valley

N52.300165 E0.661026

Millview, West Stow Road, Flempton, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP28
6EN

A CAMC CL. Space for seven vans, with hard standing. Six there when we visited, not sure how that works with "5 van rule", but, plenty of space. Each pitch has 16A EHU point. There are toilets, showers etc, but, closed when we visited, because of COVID-19 precautions. Pleasant location. Quiet. Village with pub and bus stop, about half mile walk along quiet road. Only downside, in our opinion, is the grass cutting, there  is a lot of grass, and, it is cut, but, cuttings are not cleared, very messy.

Taplow, near Windsor, Amerden Caravan Site SL6 0DZ

N51.509065 W0.686706

A small private site, down a quiet lane. It is very clean and tidy, with friendly owner. Spacious pitches. Although near the M4 and Heathrow, it is quite quiet. There are not many choices, near Windsor, and this is one of the best we have found. 4 miles easy cycling into Windsor, with a choice of routes.

Windsor, Queens Acre, a Camping and Caravan Club Certified Site.

N51.4903, W0.6819

At the time we visited, the site was being refurbished, a little unfinished at the moment, but, the Owners are very friendly and helpful, if sometimes a little difficult to contact. There is EHU, waste emptying, water, toilets and showers. It is quite possible to cycle into Windsor. The site is adjacent to a Garage with shop for milk, bread etc. We typically use this site when visiting Children and Grandchildren who live in Windsor.

The White Hart. Near Windsor. Holyport.

N51.485633, W0.718448

Friendly and helpful land lady. This is a pub stopover, from searchforsites website. They allow Motorhomes to stop over, in their carpark. If you make use of the pub (ie buy drinks, meal), it is free, if not, there may be a charge, not sure about that.

The carpark is level and good quality hard standing (Tarmac). We visited shortly after Covid Lockdown, when restrictions still in place, fairly quiet, not sure if it is always so.

- Sites

Ashbourne Camping and Caravan Club Site

N53.01915, W1.64909

The site is located just off the busy A517 which is extremely busy with little walking provision and no cycling provision. Site is upto the expected Camping and Caravan Club standards but, the busy road is a problem to us. There is a bus service into Ashbourne. Perhaps better suited to those with a caravan, or a means of motorised transport, than those with a Motorhome. If it matters to you, neither 3 or O2 mobile networks appear to have a signal here!

Visited: 2016

Ashwell, Ashridge Farm Caravan Club Site

N52.042989, W0.142023

Ashridge Farm is a small site, very well kept, as you would expect from the Caravan Club. Warden extremely helpful and friendly. Short walk to pretty village, with pubs and eating places. Some good cycling, but, a trifle hilly!

Visited: 2017

Barnard Castle, Teesdale, Barnard Castle CAMC Site.  Lartington Lane, Barnard Castle, County Durham, DL12 9BD

N54.546386 W1.941264

Usual CAMC consistent standard of general site tidiness and facilities. They have introduced 'more relaxed' pitching rules, each pitch has two white markers, you just have to park between them, drive in or reverse in, your choice. Easy approach from Barnard Castle (6.7m Motorhome). Barnard Castle is about half mile walk. Cafes, pubs, supermarkets, antique shops etc.

Visited: 2022

N52.373 E -1.8942

Usual high standard CAMC site. Limited facilities, due to to Covid restrictions, when we visited. Considering it is only about 8 miles south of Birmingham, and about two miles off M42, it is remarkably quiet, and, quite rural. Small shop on site, Farm Shop about half a mile from site, choice of supermarkets about 2.5-3 miles from site.

Visited: 2021

Bridlington CAMC Site

N54.111481, W0.158237

Rather smart, even by CAMC standards, it is however expensive, not sure how they can justify £35/night (for members), in early April, no wonder the site is not full! Bus stop just outside site.

Visited: 2019

Bristol, Baltic Wharf Caravan Club Site

N51.446966, W2.614896

The site is in the former dockland area, which has been extensively redeveloped. The site is cramped by usual Caravan Club standards, but, otherwise upto their usual standard. It is extremely well placed for visiting Bristol, but, as a consequence it is very busy and difficult to get a pitch. Some good cycling, and plenty of places to Eat/Drink. The Caravan Club are normally very good with their signposting and instructions, but, I have to say, this was a difficult site to find!

Visited: 2012

Burford Caravan Club Site

N51.7769, W1.64866

A typical Caravan Club Site, with good facilities, tidy etc etc. It is located near a busy road, but, no noticeable traffic noise, and, it is possible to cycle into Burford on a more traffic free, but more circuitous,  route. Burford is a very pleasant place.

Visited: 2009

Charmouth, Wood Farm Caravan Club Site

N50.742031, W2.91594

The site is excellent, we are at the top of a hill, with excellent views. This is not our kind of cycling country, too hilly, so we get our walking shoes on. There is good walking, Lyme Regis is about a mile away.

Visited: 2012

Chatsworth Park CAMC Site

N53.23738, W1.61772

Usual Caravan and Motorhome Club standards. Direct access to the grounds of Chatsworth House, for pleasant walking and gentle cycling. Village of Baslow approximately 1-1.5 miles walk.

Visited: 2020

Cheddar Caravan Club Site

N51.2719, W2.77568

A small, but, very pleasant CAMC Site, within walking distance of the village, with pubs, cafes, supermarkets etc. Cycling route (Sustrans NC 26)  passes site.

Visited: 2020

Cheltenham, Cheltenham Racecourse, Caravan Club Site

N51.917412, W2.065988

This site did not get very good reviews on the Caravan Club website, but it seems perfectly good to us. Not really suitable for dogs or children, but since we do not have any either with us, that is not a problem. The site is actually inside the racecourse, and, it so happens, there is a race meeting during our visit. A race meeting does restrict movement, but, on the positive side you get to watch the racing, free!

Visited: 2012

Chertsey, Chertsey Camping and Caravan Club Site

N51.389339, W0.489691

We have been to the Chertsey C&CC Site several times. For essentially a "city" site, (we are only a few miles from Central London), it is rather nice, but, being also just a few miles from Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, some aircraft noise is to be expected. Not enough to spoil our enjoyment, or keep us awake. The site is on the banks of the River Thames. There is some excellent cycling, along the river. We use this site when visiting Children/Grandchildren, in Windsor, if we cannot get into Queens Acre. There is a bus service to Windsor (one change necessary). There is a railway station, so, access to Central London is quite possible.

Visited: 2016: 2017: 2018

Chester,   Fairoaks Caravan Club Site

N53.25683, W2.88624

Usual Caravan Club Standards. The site is located within walking distance of a Retail Park / Outlet Centre, if that is your scene. There is also bus service into Chester, which is a very nice place. Lots of excellent cycling, along the adjacent Canal.

Visited: 2011

Cirencester Park CAMC Site

N51.71418, W1.98403

A very good CAMC Site. Walking distance of Cirencester.Huge parkland area nearby, with lots of walking options.

Visited: 2019

Clumber Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

N53.28223, W1.06113

The site is fairly typical of Caravan and Motorhome Club Site, well organised, clean tidy, and, at £16/night, it is reasonably priced (for the UK). The only unusual thing is, there appears to be a security problem, there are signs at various points warning not to leave valuable in awnings, and, warning of bicycle theft. They even have a secure bicycle store, for use by members. Have not seen this at any other CAMC site, and, find it rather puzzling, since we are in the middle of nowhere, not even a mobile phone signal! The (National Trust) grounds are certainly impressive, very extensive with walking and cycling opportunities, and, since we are National Trust Members, we can enjoy the National Trust bits for free.

Visited: 2018

Cromer, Incleboro Fields Caravan Club Site.

N52.93395, E1.25247

Incleboro Fields, is quite a large site, but, is arranged in small areas, so the overall impression is one of seclusion and quiet. It is to the usual Caravan Club standard, so, no complaints there, and is within easy walking distance of both a Railway Station (West Runton) and Bus Stops.

Visited: 2014

Cromwell near Newark, Milestone Caravan Club Site

N53.14995, W0.8075

The village of Cromwell is just off the A1, but the site is so well landscaped that you cannot see the road, and can only very occasionally hear the hum of traffic. We have a pitch overlooking one of the fishing lakes. The site conforms to usual Caravan Club Standards. Despite it's close proximity to the busy A1, there are cycling possibilities and it is quite possible to cycle to Newark.

Visited: 2009

Colchester Holiday Park, Cymbeline Way, CO3 4AG,

N51 53' 32" E0 51'42"

A privately run site. Good facilities, friendly and helpful Reception Staff. Unusually, for the UK, this is an ACSI Site, so £18/night, including EHU. It is possible to walk into Colchester, or, take the bus. Colchester is an interesting place.

Visited: 2018

Coniston, Park Coppice CAMC Site

N54 21'5" W3 5'5"

A Caravan and Motorhome Club site. Facilities to usual high club standard and Wardens helpful and friendly. The site is located in a wooded area near the Coniston Lakeshore. Pitches are located in clearings within the trees, so, the site does not appear as formal as the "usual" CAMC Site. There is a bus-stop at the site entrance. There are two walking routes to the village, approximately 1 mile away. Both more or less traffic free, one along the lake shore and one along a former railway line. A choice of pubs for food/drinks.

Visited: 2019

Denham, Wyatts Covert Caravan Club Site

N51.5934, W0.50826

A small but very pleasant Caravan Club Site, upto their usual high standard. It is near a small airport, so, some aircraft noise, but it did not spoil our enjoyment. Some good walking and cycling along quiet roads, or, along the Grand Union Canal. Several pubs / eating places nearby. We stayed here as an experiment to see if it was a viable alternative to Chertsey and Queens Acre, to visit Windsor. Public transport links to Windsor do not appear to be good, although it is a relatively short journey by road.

Visited: 2016, 2021

Devizes, Devizes Camping and Caravan Club Site

N51.356511, W2.072076

A very pleasant Camping and Caravan Club site, alongside a canal. Clean and tidy, with good facilities. Plenty of enjoyable cycling along the canal. Impressive set of canal locks. Devizes is a quaint and enjoyable little place.

Ferry Meadows CAMC Site, Peterborough

N52.56053, W0.30593

Excellent CAMC Site. Good cycling, walking, within easy walking/cycling distance of Peterborough, buses available if required.

Visited: 2018: 2019, 2020

Folkstone, Black Horse Farm Caravan Club Site

N51.13307, E1.15716

Well placed for a last stop, before Ferry or Tunnel. The site has a dedicated area for Ferry/Tunnel arrivals departures, and, unusually for Caravan Club, you can pay in advance and arrive/leave without interacting with Reception, at whatever time of day/night, you so wish. Pub just outside the gate, which does food, if you cannot be bothered to cook.

Visited: 2014: 2015: 2018

Grafham Water Caravan Club Site

N52.31204 W0.30405
Grafham Water does not appear to be one the Caravan Club's better sites, a bit too crowded for our taste, but, I suppose, it was still school holidays, when we visited. A further problem is, the village does not have a pub (or a shop even). It also has the miss-fortune to be the only Caravan Club Site where I have encountered what I would describe as a "smart arse" Warden. Don't think we will be back.

Visited: 2012

N54.9695 W2.253

A small private site, on the banks of the River South Tyne, and on the edge of Haydon Bridge Village. A short walk, about 0.75 miles, to Village Centre, with pubs, Coop Supermarket, railway Station. Access is reasonably easy. The site is mostly static caravans (about 35), with 9 grass pitches for tourers. Spotlessly clean facilities block with separate Mens/Womens toilets, showers. Dish washing, waste disposal. EHU at each pitch. Good views over the river from touring
pitches. Quiet.

Visited: 2022

N53.72025 W1.99074

A CAMC Site, so, usual high standard of good order and tidiness, plus, helpful, friendly wardens. A small site, with no Toilets or showers, so, unusual for a CAMC Site (and us). Bus stop just outside site entrance. Village (Mytholmroyd) and Supermarkets (2) within 1 miles walk. TV reception is poor, but, EHU bollards have aerial boosters. "3" Mobile data signal good, and O2/Tesco Signal, good.

Hereford. Moorhampton CAMC SiteThe Old Station, Moorhampton, Hereford, Herefordshire, HR4 7BE

N52.11774 E -2.89289

A small, site, but, upto usual CAMC high standards, with very friendly and helpful wardens. Only downside, from a motorhomes viewpoint is, it is very remote, nearest village is 4 miles away, Hereford is 10 miles away. There is a bus service to Hereford. The rural aspect of the site extends to communications, there is virtually no mobile signal on O2 or 3. The mobile data signal on 3 is only 3G and so slow as to be unusable (if these things matter to you).

Visited 2021

Hertford Camping and Caravan Club Site

N51.78571, W0.06801

A large site, probably not one we would like when busy, but, in March, it is quiet. Everything in order, as you would expect from one of the two major clubs, facilities clean, but, a bit dated. Pleasant walk in Hertford, where there is a choice of eating and drinking options.

Visited 2019

Henley-on-Thames,  Four Oaks Caravan Club Site

N51.54952, W0.90285

As is always with the Caravan Club sites, it is spot on, in terms of facilities etc. A bit traffic noise, unless you get a pitch away from the rather busy road. Henley-on-Thames is a very pleasant place, plenty of good walking and cycling.

Visited:  2011

Huntingdon, Houghton Mill Campsite

N52.33119, W0.12074

A very pleasant site, which at the time we visited, was run by Caravan Club, but, which I believe is now run by the National Trust. Walking distance of village with a choice of pubs / food. Plenty of walking and cycling (mostly traffic free).

Keswick, Caravan and Camping Club  Site

N54.600665, W3.149706

A very pleasant Camping and Caravan Club site. Stunning views over Derwentwater. So popular that it is often full. Walking distance of Keswick with many choices of pubs / eating, plus Market, Shops etc. Plenty of walking and Cycling opportunities.

Lamplugh, Cumbria, CA14 4SH.

A CAMC Site, but without any "facilities", ie, no shower block, no toilet block. A small site, with mostly hard standing pitches. Located actually on the C2C CycleRoute from Whitehaven to Sunderland/Tynemouth. Usual tidy and clean CAMC Site, although pitch shapes are a bit odd, and, for the first time, I see units parked sideways on a CAMC Site, shock horror. If TV and internet are important to you, EHU Bollards have TV boosters, but, even with that, signal quality is poor. Mobile Internet is only 3g from 3 Network, but 4g from Tesco/O2.

There is a small site shop, but, this site is remote, unless you have transport, arrive stocked up with food and drink!

Littlehampton Caravan Club Site

N50.82767, W0.54292

Usual high standard of Caravan Club Site. Pub with meals almost next door. Ten minutes walk into town. Easy approach. Much busier surrounding area, on our second visit. Superstore within walking distance.

Ludham,
Norfolk Broads CAMC Site, Ludham, Norfolk, NR29 5NY

N52.70036 E1.51371

Typical CAMC Site. Good facilities, clean and tidy in general, friendly wardens, so,  excellent first impression. There are buses, but, not sure how frequently. At least two pubs, one walkable, the other in Ludham, so, cyclable. There are limited shops, in Ludham. Wroxham appears to to be nearest "real" shops (7 miles). So, Motorhomers, shop before you arrive!

N53.37965, W0.314

An affiliated Caravan Club site, on racecourse. Usual high standard you would expect. A short walk into Market Rasen, which is a little "faded". Buses to Lincoln. Visited: 2011

Melrose Gibson Park Club Site

N55.59893, W2.72413

A popular and hence often fully booked Caravan Club Site in the Scottish Borders. Usual high standard of cleanliness and tidiness expected of CC Site. Parks as well as surrounding countryside. Good walking and Cycling opportunities. The site is on the edge of town. Melrose is a very pretty little place with several opportunities for eating/drinking.

New Forest Centenary CAMC Site

N50 47'11" W1 42'24"

A very popular CAMC Site, in New Forest. Usual high CAMC Standard, but, a larger site than we usually like.

Unless you have children, probably best avoided during School holidays.

Newport, Wales, Tredegar House Country Park, Caravan Club Site

N51.56148, W3.03341

No doubt a very nice site, but, it rained and rained and rained again, so, not much exploring done! Otherwise, usual Caravan Club standards, everything spot on.

Oxford, Camping and Caravan Club Site

N51.731343, W1.250245

A Camping and Caravan Club site, tucked away behind a "Go Outdoors" outlet. Very helpful and friendly wardens. Park and Ride into Oxford just across the road. Plenty of walking and cycling opportunities. Oxford an interesting place to visit.

Powburn, River Breamish Caravan Club Site

N55.44529, W1.92112

The site is a short distance off the main A697, far enough so that it is not possible to hear any road noise. As you would expect, from Caravan Club, it is a clean and well maintained site. There is a bus service, (bus stop about a mile from site), unless you have transport, perhaps wise to "stock up" before arrival, since it is a little remote. Good walking and cycling, particularly along the Breamish Valley.

Peterborough, Ferry Meadows

N52.56053, W0.30593

This was a "chance encounter" when we were heading further south, and an accident on the A1 caused massive traffic delays. We turned off and headed for the nearest site, which was this one. Lucky find. Set in a Country Park with miles of walking and cycling, Lake, Steam Train, plus the usual Caravan Club standard of site. We are able to cycle for miles on good quality, fairly level cycle tracks.

Richmond, Hargill House Caravan Club Site

N54.45297, W1.70574

The site is the usual high standard we expect of the Caravan Club. It is located just off the A66, about 1 mile from the village of Gilling West, where the White Swan pub does an excellent Sunday Lunch. There is an "unofficial" bus-stop at the gate, for a bus into Richmond.

Rutland Camping and Caravan Site. Greetham.

N52.723962 E0.631954

An affiliated CAMC Site. Neat and tidy, with good facilities, as might be expected, given the price, £32/night in Winter! Our pitch is "serviced" ie water, EHU and waste water Darin, on pitch. It is a large site, but, with a separate adults only section. Indoor swimming pool (pay extra to use), and a Cafe with an extensive menu. Village (Greetham), with two or three pubs, in walking distance.

St Neots, Camping and Caravan Club Site,

N52° 13.227' W0° 16.458'

A good Camping and Caravan Club site, located alongside the river and parkland. Plenty of Cycling options, a busy town a short walk away, with plenty of eating, drinking and shopping options. Good bus link to Cambridge.

Sandringham Camping and Caravan Club Site

N52° 49.095' E0° 29.596'.

The site is typical Camping and Caravan Club, clean, organised, helpful and friendly staff.
It is a bit "remote", so, stock up before arrival. We discover early in the morning, there appears to be an enormous population of Wood Pigeons, the noise of them "cooing" at dawn is enough to wake even me! There are numerous walking and cycling options, however, being Norfolk, we expected "flat", it would appear all of the hill in Norfolk are concentrated in this area! Kings Lynn is an easy cycle ride, and, worth a visit.

Staveley, Poolsbrook Caravan Club Site

N53.257987, W1.352284

A good Caravan Club Site, set in a Country Park. Many cycling and walking options, both in the Country Park, and along the nearby Chesterfield Canal. Chesterfield is well worth a visit, and, is a pleasant cycle ride away. Unfortunately, the nearby village of Staveley has seen better days, it does have shops for essential supplies however.

Southampton, Sunnydale Farm Campsite

N50 53'8" W1 20'30"

Netley Abbey. An ACSI site, which makes the cost reasonable, but, in "peak" none ACSI discount periods, it is positively expensive (ie £31/night, May 2019). Other than the cost, a good site with friendly and helpful staff, clean and tidy etc.

Tiverton, Minnows Caravan Club Site

N50.924386, W3.364808

A Caravan Club site with usual high standard of cleanliness and tidiness. Adjacent to Great Western Canal, with excellent cycling and/or walking. It is quite possible to cycle into Tiverton (7 miles), although the nearest village is Sampford Peverall.

Visited: 2012

Welwyn, Commons Wood Caravan Club Site

N51.780297, W0.189203

We have only ever used this site as a stop-off en-route to/from France. It would also make a good stop to visit London, since there is a good rail service into London. The site is the usual Caravan Club standard. The wardens are exceptionally helpful and friendly, allowing us to arrive well after "gates closed" time, when on one occasion we were held up in traffic on the M25.

Visited: 2010: 2015, 2021

Winchester. Morn Hill CAMC Site

N51.06208 W1.25846

Usual standard of cleanliness and organisation, for a CAMC Site. Bus stop, with buses to Winchester (2-3 miles). We visited during Covid restrictions, so, it may be better under "normal" times, but, facilities in adequate in number. Also, if it matters to you, facilities are Unisex. No hard standing pitches  which may be problem for Motorhomes in wet weather. Very close to A31, so, significant traffic noise, alternatively, noise from Crows. Not our best choice of site.

Windermere / Staveley, Camping and Caravan Club, Windermere Site.

N54 21.656 W2 48.138

A good quality Camping and Caravan Club Site. A little too large and remote for our taste. Despite it's name, it is not actually very close to Windermere Lake. Transport needed. However, there is plenty of excellent walking.

Visited: 2018

Wolverley Camping and Caravan Club site

N52.40833, W2.243976

A typical Camping and Caravan Club Site, near Kidderminster.

Tidy, clean, and good facilities. Pub, (The Lock Inn), five minutes walk. Adjacent to Staffordshire and Worcestshire Canal.

Worcester Malvern Hills CAMC Site

Woodhall Spa Camping and Caravan Club Site

N53 9'11" W0 10'9"

Once a wartime RAF and Army Camp, now a well kept Camping and Caravan Club campsite. Woodhall Spa is famous for it's association with RAF 617 Squadron (the Dam Busters) of WW2 fameIt is like stepping back into the 1940's ! Indeed, there was a "1940's re-enactment" over the weekend we are told. They would not have to do much "re-enacting"! Very quaint. In addition to the wartime associations, there is plenty of cycling and walking opportunities.

YorkBeechwood Grange Caravan Club Site

N53.99514, W1.02764

Located near the York outer ring road, this is a perfectly good Caravan Club Site. Although it is near (30 minute walk) the Park and Ride and some Retail Parks, it felt rather remote to us. Really, you need transport here, so, perhaps better for Caravans than Motorhomes. York generally is reasonable for cycling, but, the roads in the immediate area around the site are rather busy for cycling.

York, Rowntree Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

N53.95066, W1.0809

A very well located Caravan Club Site, within walking distance of York city centre, with all of its attractions. It is also possible to cycle along the river, and, into the surrounding Countryside. The site is alongside the River Ouse, and, prone to flooding, so, perhaps best to check in periods of wet weather. It's location makes it very popular, and, hence, often difficult to get a space. This is one of the best "city" sites we have visited, we would go more often, if it were not so often full!. Approach.

York, Naburn Lock Caravan Park

Large Designer Outlet Centre about 3 miles away (on bus route). Bus stop (for York / Selby) at entrance to site. Pizza van on Saturday evenings.
