Our first Motorhome outing of 2026, fingers crossed it will go smoothly.
Approximately 150 miles. No problems, other than crowded Services, Wetherby, no parking spaces in Caravan area, directed to HGV area, by parking attendant, no space there either, so, they lost of £15 coffee and cake expenditure, which went to Boroughbridge Services (M62), still very crowded, but, at least we got parked in HGV area.
Arriving at Kenby Farm CL (N53.77574 W0.070263). at about 14:30, Satnav takes us right to the door (well gate), just as well, since there is a distinct lack of signposting. No-one here to meet us, but, fairly easy to find everything, and, Elaine (owner) arrives to give us the welcome chat later in the afternoon.
Place is very pleasant, although, very rural (not a problem, I have packed all provisions, I hope). There is a good mobile signal on O2 (Tesco) and Giffgaff (also O2), so, World Cup not withstanding Kathleen should be able to watch her soaps.
There is one other unit here, carvanners.

It would appear that we, well, I have decided to come away in Motorhome, just as we (ie England) are about the experience a heat wave, second one so far, this summer.
Today, we get 27C. We manage just over 5 miles, on the tandem. Other than the heat, very pleasant on really quiet roads, we notice a distinct lack of villages with pubs. There are villages, but, no pubs. I notice the road on which he campsite is located is called "Quaker Road" perhaps there is a connection?
We return from our outing to find someone else has arrived, another Caravanner.

Even hotter today at 28C.
Another tandem outing. The intention is to go to the nearest village (Roos), and, if possible have drinks and lunch.
The road which provides the most direct route, is closed for some type of road works. It occurs to me that it may still be possible to cycle or walk along the road. Fortunately, there is one of the "brokers" sitting in the cab of his van, when we arrive there, and, he confirms that the road is passable for cyclists and pedestrians.
At the end of the road (New Road) we come to Burton Road (B1242). I am a bit wary of this road, it is not very wide, a bit up and down, and, rather twisty, and appears to be a "major" road. In the event, not a problem, there is not a lot of traffic, and, they are considerate.
The good news is, Roos has two pubs (Black Horse and Roos Arms), the bad news is neither open until 15:30 in the afternoon (it is 12:00 when we arrive), and neither do food on Wednesdays!
Much to my surprise, Kathleen suggests we cycle to Burton Pidsea, about 5 miles away, and, try our luck there. This is even less successful, no open pub at all, only a garage, selling sandwiches.
So, we end up with a sandwich each, from the Garage in Burton Pidsea, we cannot find a seat to have our picnic, so, we end up sitting on the edge of the workmen's trailer, at the road works in New Road, eating our sandwich and drinking water. A bit of a come down from our planned pub lunch.
But Kathleen announces she has had a great time, so, no problem!
11.20 miles in total.

Our final full day. Another hot one, but much cooler than yesterday, at "only" 20C, declared "freezing" by Kathleen. 😊
The most recently arrived Caravanner couple depart, but, we return from our lunchtime outing to find two new arrivals, a caravan and a motorhome, so, that is four of us on site at the moment.
Our plan for today is to visit the nearby hamlet of Fitling, and, lunch at The Spotted Duck Tearoom. I am happy to report that our "eating out" plan is more successful than yesterday. The Spotted Duck is a pleasant modern building, within the Westfield Country Park, which is a development of "lodges", with an area of fishing lakes. The have a comprehensive menu, from Breakfast, light lunches, and "main" meals.
It is reasonably busy, almost exclusively Pensioners, all of whom look older than us, and, our tandem attracts some admiring attention, both of which pleases Kathleen 😊.
We did cycle to Fitling on Tuesday, it is just off the Holderness Bye-way Cycle Route, so, easy and pleasant riding with little traffic (at least there was very little, on Tuesday). Fitling is not even a village, it is a Hamlet, with a population of less than 100, so, it is a mystery to me how and why it should boast a Licenced Tea Room, when the surrounding villages seem unable to support even a pub.
The mystery of how the Spotted Duck survives is explained by the Country Park development.

Typically, as sooner as I begin packing the "outdoor" stuff (eg EHU Cable, Step, etc), we have a downpour!
Uneventful journey home.
